Buyer Beware - FAKE Morgans !

http://cgi.ebay.com/1884-S-1889-CC-1...QQcmdZViewItem

These are "Tribute" coins and it might be possible they contain no silver at all...........nevertheless this is one of the many 'scams' on eBay.

'Scam' is a harsh word - but any 'fake' coin should clearly be labeled as such and there should absolutely be no intent to deceive whatsoever.

It says they are silver clad. Good point, though, you need to read the descriptions and be aware of scams.

They state they are replica's of the most sought after dates in silver clad. There are 25 bids and the price is $400., if these people don't understand what they are bidding on they deserve what they get.

I have Morgan and Peace silver rounds (1 oz .999), but only the ignorant would mistake them for legal tender.

The American Historical Society puts out a lot of those "tribute" coins. I would call them "junk" but I don't want to give junk silver a bad name.:D

However, they also make offers for real Silver Eagles, Silver Dollars, and Silver Halves. You only have to pay the shipping cost which is about $4.95 each. Limit one per household. 1-800-603-5905. You must have a credit card and listen to a sales pitch for about 5-10 minutes. Just be polite and keep saying NO THANK YOU to each offer. It takes about 6 weeks to get your coins. Be sure to get their customer service number and call them in about 5 weeks. It is about then they get around to sending it.

Here is where some fake ultra-rare date Morgans are coming from right here in the US.

Do you want to know how to tell the difference between a fake Morgan and a real Morgan?

Study the real thing!

Study, study, study.

When you know the real Morgans (especially premium dates), you'll never be fooled.

Even if you see it on the web (ebay), in a magazine, on TV or in person.

You'll know the difference.

I'm not saying that the studying will be easy, it's like taking music lessons.

PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE!

Before you know it, you'll be able to pick them apart blind folded.

I got my first Morgans in the Fifty's.

If it's too good to be true....

If it looks like a Duck....

I think you get my meaning.

Maranatha,

P.S. For starter's, the real ones won't have a COPY stamp on them.

Niether will they state the silver content.

The auction plainly states replica coins. The reverse photo of the coin plainly states copy. Perfectly legal, I believe.

Some COPY coins (perhaps not clad), contain 1 oz, .999 AG if so labeled? OK as bullion rounds I would think.

I think this is more about people's ignorance more than scam.....I would love to email the patsy who wins this bid.

Just like those "No Reserve" 99c "Buffaloes" (often they say "Copy" in the ad)
